The corpse of a 23-year old lady, Precious Yusuf, have been found just
24 hrs after she visited a man she met on a dating site.
According to the spokesperson to the Delta State Police command, Bright Edafe, Precious’s corpse was found along DLA Road opposite Falcon Club Asaba, Delta State on October 24 a day after she left his house.
The spokesperson said preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased left her house on October 22 telling her friends she was going to visit a man she met on a dating site, iHappy dating website but she never made it back home as her corpse was found two days later.
“At about 8.40am on the said day, the DPO ‘A’ division Asaba received a distress call that the corpse of a young lady was found at DLA Road. The DPO, CSP Rex Abiodun, swiftly mobilized and led police operatives of the division to the scene where the corpse of the lady was found.
On October 22, the deceased told her friend that she was going to see a male friend she met on iHappy dating website. She left the house on 22nd October to see the young man at Coka. On the 23rd at about 0730 hours, she called her friend that she was on her way home and that was the last time she made any contact only for her corpse to be found the next day,” Edafe said.
He said while her corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, the state Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has ordered full Investigation into the incident.
He also warned young women to be wary of friends they keep and visit, especially those they meet on dating sites adding several incidents have revealed that people hide their true identity and characters on social media platforms to lure victims.
He sympathised with the family of the deceased and assured them that police will ensure justice is done.
Precious’s case is one of the numerous cases of people, especially ladies, who have fallen victims of such incidents after visiting and spending nights with men they met on dating sites.
Many of the victims were often promised marriage by their online lovers or enticed with financial promises only to be killed and used for ritual purposes after visiting their supposed lovers.
