Insecurity: Umahi tasks new Ebonyi police boss on kidnapping, communal crises

…Threatens to sack commissioner for border/conflict resolution if……

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has urged the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Philip Maku, to accord priority to tackling the upsurge of kidnapping and communal crisis ravaging the state.

Governor Umahi gave the admonition, in Abakaliki, on Tuesday, while receiving the new police boss in his office.

He said that the citizens were concerned about the security situation in the state insisting that the increasing cases of  kidnapping and communal crisis were on worrisome.

In the words of the governor, “I urge you to revive the security apparatus in the state. we do not want to hear about kidnapping and communal crisis in the state, we want an end to all this challenges.

“I want to jam my CP and Commissioners on inspection and patrol in the night, if the hoodlums see and hear the blazing of our sirens, they will vanish.

Governor Umahi reiterated that he was happy with the Police hierarchy in the state stating “you have a formidable team in the state”

The governor also threatened to sack the state’s Commissioner for Border/Conflict Resolution in addition to his Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation if the upsurge in kidnapping continues.

“I registered my displeasure with the Commissioner for Border and Security and my Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation  on the menace. If the crime situation persists, I will sack them.”

Earlier in his speech, Mr. Maku solicited for partnership from both the government and the citizenry in order to guarantee  the safety of lives and property.

Said he, “My mission statement is partnership, community partnership in Crime prevention, security is everybody business.

“With the use of community partnership. with cooperation of everyone  crime rate will be reduced drastically “

The police boss was accompanied on the visit by senior Police Officers from the State Police Command including the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lovet Odah, among others
