Hon. Tony Nwulu, the Labour Party (LP) deputy gubernatorial candidate in the November election in Imo State, has identified insecurity as the only notable thing going on in the state.
Nwulu, who spoke during his unveiling by his principal, Sen. Athan Achonu, in Owerri, the state capital, said the Labour Party had come to deliver the state from the strongholds that delight in shedding innocent blood.
The former lawmaker noted that he only accepted to run with Achonu, knowing the kind of person he is, adding that Achonu is a go-getter, who is well-known for achieving whatever he lays his hands on.
“We have come to Imo State to wipe away your tears. We have come to repair Imo State and retrieve it from the strongholds of those that are after our lives,” Nwulu declared.

Obviously referring to news that Achonu, “the incoming governor”, is fronting for Uzodinma, the former lawmaker debunked the rumours, asking: “Looking at him (Achonu), who do you think should be fronting for whom?”
Taking a swipe at Governor Hope Uzodinma in comparison to Achonu, Nwulu noted that Uzodinma has never had an industry or company and has never given anybody employment nor has he ever made any investment in Nigeria.
The deputy governor hopeful added: “The only sector thriving in Imo State is insecurity. The Imo we used to know is gone but we shall restore it. The Labour Party has come to save even other parties, including the All Progressives Congress, APC; we have come to rescue all of them. Nobody is safe, even in the APC.”

In the 2015 elections, Nwulu ran for the House of Representatives on the Platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Won to represent Oshodi-Isolo II Federal Constituency of Lagos State. He had earlier defeated a prince of Yoruba land and another illustrious Yoruba son during the PDP Party Primaries before trouncing the incumbent APC Yoruba man in the general elections, and thereby stepping into the shoes of the great Nnamdi Azikiwe, the “Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill” he sponsored is, perhaps, the best legislation that has outlived its era.
It did not only pass through the National Assembly but was also considered across the 36 state Houses of Assembly for concurrence before presidential assent and has gained numerous local and international endorsements. It is the first bill that was laid on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), ECOWAS Parliament, and the African Union.
The Bill has been passed by 14 states’ Houses of Assembly and more are expected to follow suit.
Many believe that with Nwulu teaming up with the Ideas Distillery, as Sen. Achonu, a well-heeled industrialist with a bias for his homeland via his evident Aku Ruo Ulo philosophy, is known, Imo State is well on the road to recovery and safety.
