Insecurity: Niger govt. moves to ban sex workers

As part of its attempts to combat insecurity, the Niger State Government will outlaw the activities of commercial sex workers in Minna, Niger Delta.

While granting interview to some newsmen in Minna, the Permanent Secretary of the state’s Ministry for Women’s Affairs and Social Development, Kaltum Rufa’i, stated this.

Ms. Rufa’i claimed that the government was ignorant of such unwholesome conduct that could have contributed to the state’s present security issues.

According to her, there are state laws against such behavior, and the administration will look into it to halt the despicable habit.

“Now that you have brought the issue to our notice, the government will swing into action.

“I will personally go and meet the Secretary to the State Government to discuss the issue and find solutions to it,” she said.

Investigations in Minna showed that the ladies and girls began their businesses every day from 7:00p.m. to midnight.

The City Gate Roundabout, the Eastern By-pass, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) massive filling station, Minna, are some of their greatest locations for drawing customers.

The women often wait for their clients in groups of two, three, four, and above.
