The Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Imo State Police Command has arrested the leader of a gang, who reportedly robbed a medical doctor with the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, on November 6, 2018.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, said the leader of the gang, Emmanuel Bassey, was arrested on July 12, 2019, in Oron, Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State by SARS personnel.
The armed robbery gang, according to the CP, had dispossessed the medical doctor of his car.
CP Ladodo explained that the arrest of the gang leader and the recovery of the stolen vehicle were as a result of a diligent and long period of investigation by the SARS men led by its Commander, Godfrey Victor.

The CP said, “On May 3, 2019, a case of armed robbery was reported to us through a petition by one Dr Ononiwu Lasbrey of the FMC, Owerri.
“The victim reported that on June 11, 2018, his ash Toyota Corolla 2018 model with number plate LAGOS LND 13 AU and other valuables were snatched from him by three armed men at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Amakohia Owerri.
The SARS commander led a team of personnel in July 2019 and arrested the kingpin of the armed robbers.
“One Emmanuel Bassey of Oron town, Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, but resides in Umucheke Obazu Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State confessed to the crime and that the car was still parked at his compound in Oron.”
The police boss added that the suspect led SARS operatives to his home town of Oron, Akwa Ibom State, where the stolen vehicle was recovered.
