He said that a recent check confirms the daily sad tales of violent crimes that expose the high level of insecurity in the state.

The party observed that as top religious leaders are kidnapped, so are the ordinary people are kidnapped adding that even the high and mighty are killed, so are the lowly masses killed.

“The leadership of the PDP regretted that even when Governor Hope Uzodimma acknowledged the fact that the supposed militants, kidnappers  are reported to be engaging official security operatives in prolonged shout-outs that caused huge losses of lives and property in Orlu area in the month of January 2021, yet, nothing has been done by the governor.”

The party described as ‘unfortunate’  that not even a visit to scenes of the shoot-outs has been witnessed by the governor, and that no Panel of Inquiry set up to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the fracas and the mayhem that ensued was taken.

The PDP also expressed its dissatisfaction that with the increasing spate of insecurity, saying the “Governor Uzodimma regime does not have any answers for the terrible situation adding that there no arrests, even when arrests of the criminals should be made, but also no suspects are paraded which according to them must be stimulating the courage and boldness of the criminals to keep brazenly riding the State roughshod with all manners of violent crimes.”

This party said it noted with chagrin and consternation that the increasing spate of insecurity has projected Imo State in bad light in Nigeria and overseas, adding that Imo State is fast being counted among the headquarters of violent crimes in Nigeria.

The party, therefore, called for a State of Emergency on insecurity in the state, adding that doing that might be the only true guarantee for the safety and security of lives and property in the state.

The party underscores that safety and security in the society is the business of all citizens, adding that the government of the day has the responsibility of providing the necessary enabling environment for the creating and sustaining safety and security.

It expressed its concerns that Imo State and people of the state were suffering the consequences of the worsening spate of insecurity in the State pointing out that citizens now live in fear of violent attacks by all manner of criminals, while patronages to businesses both by indigenes and by visitors and investors keeps dwindling and diminishing by the day, worsening the bad economic realities of the State.

According to the party, “the situation has become too worrisome as the three geo-political zones of the State are not spared of the onslaught by criminals adding that the lamentations over the rise in crime in Imo State resonate from across the State to the extent that nobody is assured of safety and security any longer.

“The party charges the current regime in the State to wake up from slumber and begin to stem the wave and tide of crime and criminality in the state.”
