Imo North gets ready for the rains, as erosion control project gathers steam

Anthony Iwuoma

Ahead of this year’s rainy season, the senator, representing Imo North Senatorial Zone in the National Assembly, Sir Chukwuma Frank Ibezim, is working round the clock to find a permanent solution for the yearly flooding in the district, especially around Isinweke-Lowa in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area.

This is coming ahead of Ibezim’s first anniversary in the senate next month. The lawmaker has left nobody in doubt that he meant every word of his pledge during the electioneering campaign that he was in a hurry to restore the glory of the Imo North, also known as Okigwe Zone.

To make good his pledge, the talk-and-do lawmaker on  assumption of office in April last year swung into action to quickly arrest the flooding situation.

The  broken and abandoned erosion control system  was identified, as the culprit and immediate remedial actions were taken while a lasting solution is being fashioned.

Currently, the erosion control project in Isinweke-Lowa, joining Ama Ogoke Road is one of the numerous ongoing projects across the zone.

The construction, which will permanently put a lid on the flooding challenge, is planned to be completed before the rain sets in fully to enable the people in the area to use the road  without hassles.

Speaking on the ongoing construction recently, Ibezim urged motorists and residents of Ishinweke-Lowa Road and adjoining Ama Ogoke Road to continue to support government efforts and the contractors by steering clear of the site in order to avoid possible danger associated with such deep escavations and construction works.

It will be recalled that Ibezim successfully emerged to take up the seat vacated by the late Senator Ben Uwajumogu in the Red Chamber after a tortuous and fractious prolonged legal tussle.

However, he has left doubting Thomases, wondering at the ease with which he has attracted one heavy project or another to the zone despite being a lawmaker.

Already, heavy constituency-wide electrification project is concurrently ongoing in various areas of the state.
