Imo guber: SANA Campaign Council carpets Kelly Hansome

The Senator Athan Nneji Achonu (SANA) Campaign Council has responded to the claims by a musician, Kelly Hansome, that he was invited to the United States of America (USA) by the Labour Party candidate in the November election in Imo State, Sen. Athan Achonu, to join some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to strategise on how Governor Hope Uzodinma could be supported to win re-election.
Although Hansome had realised his mistake and retracted the statement, the Achonu campaign team is not happy because Achonu’s opponents are capitalising on the gaffe to spread falsehood.

The council has released a statement explaining what transpired at the USA event.

The statement, titled: ‘SEN. ATHAN NNEJI ACHONU AND KELLY HANSOME’S POT OF LIES’ reads: The social media is awash with stories credited to one Kelly Hansome, reportedly a musician, who claimed that the leading contender in the Imo governorship election in November, Senator Athan Nneji Achonu, SANA, invited him to a political meeting with the All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftains in the United States where they tried to convince him to work for the reelection of Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.

This is false and deceptive propaganda being peddled by enemies of the people and a wicked representation of what transpired at the event organised by the Imo State Congress in America Imo State Congress America (ISCA), USA.

However, the question that readily comes to mind, is, why Achonu again? What does the opposition see in him that makes them mortally afraid to the point of consistently concocting falsehoods to feed the gullible public and divert the people’s attention from the man God has anointed to liberate the state from the stranglehold of misrule?

The truth about Hansome’s ugly narrative is that the ISCA, a non-profit and non-partisan organisation set up by Imo State indigenes resident in the United States to promote Imo socio-cultural integration/development and harness the potentials of their youths, held its annual convention between July 20 – 23, 2023, and invited some Imo stakeholders.

Perhaps, given that the Imo State gubernatorial election is just a few months away, ISCA deemed it wise to seize the opportunity offered by the convention to interact with all the candidates seeking the vote of Imo people to serve as their governor, including Senator Achonu, to address the body.

Invitations were sent out to that effect, and Senator Achonu honoured the invitation. He presented himself before the organisation, x-rayed his reasons for contesting, and his plans for the state, and squarely attended to their questions.

It is unimaginable how Achonu could invite Kelly Hansome to the event as claimed and in what capacity he did so since he was also an invitee and not one of the organisers; or is Kelly accusing ISCA as well as other invitees and contestants against the governor of being APC members and working for Uzodinma, who sent Emelumba, the Imo Commissioner for information to represent him?
It was while Emelumba was speaking for Uzodimma and eulogising the governor that enraged Kelly interrupted the proceedings, questioning why someone (Emelumba) was singing praises for Uzodimma.

All efforts to make Kelly Hansome understand that invitations were sent to the major guber candidates to the event didn’t go well with him. So, the organisers invited security to remove him from the gathering for disruption.

Achinu has never met Handome but, obviously, Kelly Hansome mistook Emelumba for Achonu, which he has also clarified, saying he had no problem with Achonu.
He has issued a rebuttal on his Instagram page, saying, “Just to be clear, I had no issues with Senator Athan but with what Emelumba was saying” (screenshot here).
Nevertheless, the Senator Athan Achonu Campaign Organisation demands that the so-called Kelly Hansome must issue a video apology to refute his miscommunication, which the outgoing government and their allies in other parties are trying to exploit.

It is important to also state that ATHAN ACHONU held Imolites spellbound at the event with his plans for Imo State, especially on local government autonomy, ease of doing business, the viability of Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport; industrial parks in the three senatorial zones, which will attract investments, inspire a vibrant manufacturing sector, foster creativity, and provide the much-needed employment for citizens in line with his Aku Ruo Ulo business philosophy.

He also spoke on his robust plans to tackle insecurity.
