The Concerned Imo Influencers, the leading support group for Senator Athan Achonu, the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate for the Imo State gubernatorial election in November, has lauded Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the disputed February election, for his unflinching support for Achonu.
Obi had made and unannounced appearance at Achonu’s campaign rally in Orlu, at the weekend.

Dressed in black, he led the mammoth crowd in a one minute silence in honour of all those, who had lost their lives in the violence ravaging the zone.
It was indeed a momentous event that drew passion, loyalty and support from Orlu zone who despite the plethora of challenges showed up in large numbers.
While appealing to the mammoth crowd to vote for Achonu, our Obi made profound statements to the people on the need to take note of all campaign promises and to hold the accountable.
“We have come to introduce the Labour Party to you, a party that works. I followed Achonu to this rally so that I could also be a check on him and call him to order in case he performs differently. Write down all his promises. So, I am here to campaign for him and for the people too to ensure that he will keep his promises,” Obi said.
“The Labour Party has come to repair the land. Don’t mind the people sharing money. The money is not theirs; it is the people’s money, your money.
“The Labour Party is the only party that cares for human beings, mama, papa and pickin. Other parties care for umbrellas and brooms but we care for parents and children. Vote for the Labour Party so that everything will go well.”
Meanwhile, Achonu has reiterated his “commitment to the people of Orlu zone and to Ndi Imo my pledge to take back Imo from penury, poverty and pain to the path of peaceful coexistence, equity, justice, industrialisation, youth growth and sustainable development.”
Achonu has continued to garner unprecedented support across the state with his crowd-pulling ongoing rallies in the 27 local government areas of the state.
So far, Agu Otu Aka (One-Arm General), as Achonu is fondly called, has campaigned in 13 LGAs.
The mammoth crowd that has been turning out to hear him has left no one in doubt about his acceptability to the people.
According to Ambassador Theo Chibueze, the Convener of the group: “The coming and endorsement of Obi will further disabuse the minds of naysayers that Achonu is for real and having scaled over all the legal hurdles orchestrated against his candidature, he is unstoppable on his march to takeover Douglas House after the November poll. Since the bike propaganda of the government a d its hirelings, could not stop him, not even their rigging machinery and violence can. Indeed, Achonu is unstoppable
“Obi’s association with Achonu confirms that the LP candidate is credible and that his ‘Take Back Imo’ message is not a fluke.
“Obi, as all know, represents the face of the much desired productive and servant-leadership that Nigerians are yearnings for. Obviously, Achonu has modeled his steps to Obi’s charm and charisma, and more significantly, purposeful leadership. He shall definitely replicate in Imo what Obi did in Anambra during his time as governor.
“Therefore, Ndi Imo must troop out en masse to vote for the Labour Party on November 11 in order to rescue their state from certain extinction if the rudderless Sen. Hope Uzodinma-led APC government stays a day longer in office.”
On the front line guber candidate, Chibueze added: “Achonu’s selling point his believability because he has demonstrated in practical terms what his incoming administration could do to turnaround the fortunes of the prostrate state unlike his opponents.
“The Aku Ruo Ulo advocate is a serial investor with multi-billion naira investments, especially in the agro sector and has several hundreds of people in his employment.
“He has promised to build industrial parks in the three zones of the state in order to revolutionise the state’s comatose economy. His plans for local government autonomy and promise to hold free and fair local government election within six months of his administration has more than endeared him to the people.”
Also speaking on the ravaging security situation in the state, he noted that the state government has been overwhelmed and incompetent to tackle the menace, positing, however, that Achonu has the answer.
The Convener explained: “The Labour Party flag bearer’s template to tame the hydra-headed insecurity challenge in the state is highly applauded in a state that insecurity has even driven the state governor away and forced him to govern from outside the state.
“Governor Uzodinma does not have the answer, and has failed woefully in his governance of the state. The people need a fresh breath and Achonu is it.”

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in last February’s election yesterday stormed the campaign rally of the party’s governorship candidate in the November 11 Imo governorship election, Senator Athan Achonu, in Orlu.
Obi’s unannounced arrival at the rally sent the mammoth crowd into frenzy, as he expressed his solidarity with Achonu, assuring the people that the LP flag bearer has what it takes to reposition the state for greater heights.
He cautioned the people who are deceived by money, noting that it was a grave error to refer to those politicians who steal public funds as Excellency.
Obi thanked the people for their steadfast faith in the Labour Party and its flag bearer, Achonu, noting that “it is not easy to come to a party where no money is shared. Thank you for supporting the Labour Party; thank you for supporting Achonu and our quest for a new Nigeria and a new Imo.”
According to Obi, the All Progressives Congress, APC, is determined to ensure that Nigeria will die in their hands and not make progress but assured that the Labour Party would checkmate it.
He disclosed that people tried to dissuade him from coming to Imo, especially Orlu because of the scary security situation. However, when he could not be discouraged, he was warned to be careful, adding that things are not supposed to be like that.
“I appeal to you to come out en masse and vote for Achonu and the Labour Party. Take note of all the promises politicians make to you and hold them accountable. Check what they promised before to see if they were done.
“If any person tells you he went to school, let him tell us which school. It is not a matter of whether he passed or failed. Be who you tell us you are.
“Take note of Achonu’s promises and hold him accountable. Nigeria will be better if this is done. This penchant of not fulfilling promises and just calling them Excellency is wrong. Anybody that does not keep his word, is he excellent or if when he gets there he loots the treasury; is a thief excellent? These are the things going on in Nigeria. Politicians have turned the country into a thieving land.
Meanwhile, Achonu reiterated his promises to the people, assuring them that he would transform the state, beginning with local government autonomy and conducting free and fair elections within six months of his administration. In addition be promised to rebuild Orlu by restoring peace, providing infrastructure as well as building 2 industrial parks in Orlu Zone Including a pharmaceutical, and oil and gas Industrial park.
He harped on the need for the people to come out and vote for him without fear of intimidation because there would be adequate security as well community efforts to protect their votes.
Also, he reminded them of his resolve to create employment opportunities, tackle insecurity and create industrial parks in the three zones, among others.
