Imo govt, NCDC release 23 suspected COVID-19 cases, order 7-day self-isolation

The Imo State Government, in conjunction with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has released 23 persons that were quarantined at Owerri West Local Government Area of the state have been released, following their exposure to  Coronavirus  suspect, who is now dead.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Edith Obi – Okoro, made this known in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Damaris Osunkwo.

“In line with public health protocols and the observance to NCDC’s guidelines on COVID -19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health has followed up the 23 persons quarantined at the Fancy Hotel, Umuguma for 14 days. Up till now, they have remained symptom-free, indicating that they may not have contracted the infection.”

The suspected hotel owner had returned from Germany but allegedly refused to observe self-isolation. He visited his hotel and Aboh Mbaise before flying to Abuja where he reportedly died, few days after developing symptoms of the Covid-19.

This made the state government to close down the hotel and quarantine all the guests but workers being quarantined, was gave the workers N10, 000 to transport themselves home, directing them to self-isolate for seven days.
