Representatives of the Ikwerre and Ogoni ethnic nationalities, on Monday, January 17, appended their signatures to the Niger Delta Peoples Charter of the Niger Delta Congress (NDC).
Spokesperson of the NDC, Barr. Ovunda C. Eni, in a statement, said pioneer President of the Rivers State NUJ, Dr. Wofuru Okparaolu, signed the Charter representing Ikwerre at his country home on Ndele, Emouha Local Government Area, while Reverend William Probel the leader of the Ogoni Peoples Assembly (OPA) and Secretary of the MOSOP Peace Coordinating Committee (MPCC) signed the Charter in Port Harcourt representing the Ogoni ethnic nationality.

The Niger Delta Peoples Charter which harmonises all charters and declarations from the Niger Delta since 1966, including the Ogoni Bill of Rights, the Kaiama Declaration, The Ikwerre Rescue Charter amongst others calls for resource control and economic and political autonomy for the Niger Delta as a precondition for the Niger Delta to remain a part of the Nigeria federation.
