Immediate past governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Seriake Dickson, on Friday, received an exemplary leadership award from the leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC).
The award, the group said, was in recognition to the development brought to the state during his tenure as governor. The award was presented to the former governor by the IYC central zone.
In a series of tweets, the former governor expressed shock that the youth considered him fit for the award.
He also used the occasion to solicit for more support for the incumbent Governor Douye Diri who, he said, would move the state to greater heights.
His tweets read, “On behalf of my family, my team and I, I commend the chairman of the IYC central zone and his wonderful officers for thinking me fit and proper to be a recipient of this exemplary leadership award which you have come all the way from the creeks of the Ijaw nation to present to me.

“My family and I, every member of my team that worked with me do appreciate this award.
“This is not just an award for only me but I like to dedicate it to the great people of Bayelsa State and my hard working, world class and indefatigable team with whom I served Bayelsa for 8yrs.
“I also call for support for all our leaders, particularly for the new governor of Bayelsa State, a state I have always christened the Jerusalem of the Ijaw nation.
“Bayelsa is in safe hands and Ijaw nation will continue to move forward.
“So, I wish you all well. I commend you, the chairman of the zone, for the able leadership you are providing and let me say that we are very proud of what you and your colleagues are doing.
“Ijaw youths have shown capacity to stand their own anywhere and everywhere under your able leadership. So pls don’t be weary in well doing. Thank You and God bless.”
