About 200 male and female judokas from across the country are expected to participate in the forthcoming National Judo Championship slated to hold in the ancient city of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital from July 14- 19, 2021.
The championship according to the schedule of events released by the Judo Federation and made available to The Nigerian Xpress Sports would be preceded by a refresher course for coaches, referees and senior judokas beginning from July 14-15 while arrival date for athletes is July 16 with the competition proper holding from July 17-18 with departure being July 19.
According to the Secretary General of the Federation, Monica Otumala, the competition is compulsory for all judokas as it is geared towards gathering points for selection of the national team for international competitions such as the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Otumala further explained that the Ibadan National Open is being sponsored by Oshodi Judo Foundation to improve the sports in the country.
Meanwhile, sponsor of the tournament and one time Vice President of Nigeria Judo Federation, Dr. Musa Oshodi has commended the Chairman Caretaker Committee of the Federation Brig. Gen. Zakare Logan Abubakar for approving the championship with a promise that his foundation is going to organize a world class event.
“We at the foundation are organizing this event because it’s in line with the vision of the Minister of Youth and Sports Sunday Dare who has been campaigning for private sector participation in sports development and we promise to put up a world class tournament,” he assured.
