I pity Shekarau for defecting to PDP, says Buba Galadima

Frontline politician, Buba Galadima, says he has his reservations towards the defection of a former Governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall that Mala Shekarau recently quit the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the PDP.

Galadima responded to Shekarau’s defection, an interview with the BBC Hausa service, saying that majority of his (Shekarau’s) supporters would remain in the organisation.

In his words, “We had already anticipated this happening. He missed the mark in making this defection, therefore I feel bad for him.

“Everywhere he defected, he continuously complains about unfair treatment. Despite his recent defection, 90% of his admirers will remain in the NNPP and not follow him, I can assure you.

“I warned you that no party wanted to miss even one vote since Shekarau has many votes and a party can win the presidency with one vote.

“We didn’t want him to leave, but since he made the decision, we should let him go. Shekarau would be a problem for us even if we win the elections, I can assure you of that.”

In the upcoming general elections, Galadima said that the NNPP would write to INEC to request that Shekarau be replaced as the Party’s senatorial candidate for Kano Central.

None of the other presidential contenders, according to Galadima, had even a quarter of the support the NNPP candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has in the North.
