The Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer, (MD/CEO), Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA), Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, has expressed concern over improving the economic well-being of people in the rural areas of the Basin Authority , as he plans to take wealth to the communities through massive agricultural activities.

He says with proper support for farmers, poverty would be a thing of the past for farmers.
Prince Amgbare spoke when Chiefs and Elders from Odogu – Ama community in Opuama clan in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa state, led by HRH Abraham Gebide, Amananawei of of Odogu- Ama Community, paid him a courtesy visit in his office, headquarters of the Basin Authority in Portharcourt Tuesday, said the Authority was prepared to make a difference for farmers.
He noted that it was the duty of the authority to ensure that all assets within the catchment states work, noting that the Authority can do a lot for the people through agriculture.
“I am concerned about improving the economic well being of our people in the communities, and agriculture can do that for us.
‘”We will touch the lives of our people to make a difference for our people.
“We have tried to reactivate Peremabiri rice farm. We supported the Rice Farmers Association and they are making gains out of it.
“We will give them more support to prove what our people in the communities can do.
“If we support our farmers, our farmers have no business being poor .Our farmers can make money for themselves”,said the NDBDA helmsman.
According to him, it is the responsibility of the Authority to support them with the right seedlings, stressing, “Our people must also benefit from that technology ”
He also disclosed a new breed of rice and cassava seedlings that can withstand various seasons.
” There is a rice seedling now, no matter the flood it cannot die. Flood will come and go. You will harvest your rice same for cassava”.
“These are the things we need to bring to our people in our communities so that life will be better for our people, our communities.
“It’s not only when they come to town they enjoy good life, they can make money in the communities” Prince Amgbare added.
He said the local economy is very important so that people can stay in their communities and have the dignity of living in their own house, in their ancestral home and making money. You must not go to Yenagoa or any other place before you make money”.
He informed that his administration is vigorously driving the original objective of the Authority, taking wealth to the people in their communities.
“We are driving that , and with the example of Peremabiri, we need to replicate it in other communities .By the grace of God things will happen soon” Prince Amgbare emphasised.
Earlier in his speech , HRH Gebide, commended Prince Amgbare for makng serious impact on the rural Communities of the catchment areas of the Basin Authority within his short period in office.
He said the impact of the Authority on rice farmers in Peremabiri is been felt in other communities too, and pledged that Opuama clan is prepared to partner the Basin Authority in all facets of agriculture.
