HURIWA wants ex-President Buhari arrested over Asari Dokubo’s ‘Army’

A civil rights advocacy group, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has demanded the arrest and prosecution of former President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly endorsing and commissioning a mercenary ‘Army’ led by a former Niger Delta militant leader, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, in secret.
HURIWA claimed to have discovered that the mercenary group operated by Dokubo was commissioned by former President Buhari to replace the constitutionally-recognised Nigerian Army.
The group called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to also arrest Asari Dokubo due to his “illegal possession of firearms” displayed in viral videos and his suspected involvement with the violent phenomenon of unknown gunmen in the South-East region.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA also criticised President Bola Tinubu, questioning the need for him to employ a private security firm from Asari Dokubo’s stable, considering the presence of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the DSS and several other security agencies in the country.
The group raised concerns that such actions may create a security nightmare for everyone.
HURIWA condemned Asari Dokubo’s open show of illegality, pointing out that he brandished AK-47 rifles in a viral video, which is an act of high treason. The group also urged authorities to artrest Dokubo for gunrunning and making threats against the Igbo people. HURIWA also criticised Dokubo for publicly requesting that the President should not release the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, which the group interpreted as a demonstration of his animosity towards the Igbo tribe in the country.
