Hoodlums vandalised the offices of the Kaduna State Traffic and Law Environmental Authority (KASTLEA) and the Investment Promotions Agency (KADIPA) and looted many shops as the hunger protest began in several parts of the country on Thursday.
The Kaduna State Police command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incidents.
“The protesters also burnt an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), and looted many shops .
“They tried to invade Government House but were prevented, many of our personnel sustained injuries and they are receiving treatment at various hospitals.”
Hassan said 23 suspects had been detained, denying that operatives used live ammunition and adding that they only fired teargas canisters to disperse unruly protesters.
The police spokesman appealed for calm and urged restraint by the residents.
