Three suspects in the murder of a commercial motorcyclist known as Okada in Kwara State have told the police how they beheaded the deceased and stole his motorcycle.
The suspects; Peter Samuel, Jeremiah Tiozinda and Sunday Agbenke
were nabbed by the Kwara State Police Command in the Asunlere area of Oke Oyi, Ilorin.
They were paraded on Wednesday by the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya.
In his confession, one of the suspects, Peter Samuel, said that he was contacted by the ringleader, Sunday Agbenke.
“I was called by Agbenke. He told me about an Okada rider who usually gave him rides and had recently bought a new bike. He suggested we kill him and steal the bike. He told me that after we stole the bike, we could sell it and make a lot of money. That’s how we got ourselves into this big trouble.
“When we tried to carry out the plan, we couldn’t take the bike because we encountered a vigilante group on our way. We abandoned the bike and ran into the bush.
He added: “The Okada rider had taken us to Oloru. On our way back, one of my companions dropped his slipper. When I went to pick it up, my brother hit the rider on the head with a plank. The rider fell down, and I used a cutlass to behead him.
Narrating how the suspects were arrested, the CP said residents of the Asunlere community reported the discovery of a headless body near a stream in the area to the police.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found an Itel Android phone which they later traced to one of the suspects, Peter leading to his arrest and that of others at different locations.Further investigation led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle from the suspects.
“Photographic evidence was captured, revealing a significant mark of violence around the neck, indicating that the head was severed,” Olaiya said.
Upon interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime with Peter telling the police that the severed head was thrown into a nearby river
The Commissioner of Police said the body was subsequently evacuated and deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital morgue, pending an autopsy adding that efforts are being made to recover the head.
