The killing of Mr. Ngozi Akpomiemie Ijeh, the Special Assistant on Youth Development to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa by suspected hoodlums has thrown Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State into confusion.
It was gathered that the governor’s aide, who was fondly called Ngozi, was shot dead on Friday night at about 10.30p.m. while returning home.
Sources revealed that Ijeh’s death was politically related. Eight people have allegedly been killed within one week in the communities, which is a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
A source said that Uvwie has been a battlefield between the PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC.
It was learnt that Ijeh was ambushed by his killers while returning from an outing with a friend.

It was not clear if the deceased’s friend was also killed by the hoodlums.
Sources added that he was shot severally on the chest and head.
Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has condemned the killing of his aide Ijei.
Okowa, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Aniagwu in Asaba said the governor was deeply saddened by the untimely death of his aide, who was killed by yet to be identi- fied gunmen in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, on Friday.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the death of Mr. Lawrence Ngozi Ijei, who was my aide until his untimely demise. I condole with his wife and family and urge security agencies to investigate the unfortunate incidence with a view to bring- ing the perpetrators to justice.
“We have alerted the security agencies of some disturbing security situation in parts of the state and wonder what they are doing because this information has been available to them.
“We urge Deltans to remain peaceful and maintain the existing peace we have built in the last three and half years,” he added.
Governor Okowa called on the security agencies to dig deep into the incident with a view to apprehending those behind the action.
