The Sunshine Community, via Oju-Ore, Ota in Ado-Odo Local Government, Ogun State played host to an unprecedented crowd of sympathizers on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
It was the day a couple, Pa Abdur-Rasheed Adebayo and his wife, Madam Basirat Ajike Adebayo, bade this world bye-bye.
Madam Adebayo died by 9.35a.m at the age of 68 years, and her husband, Abdur-Rasheed Adebayo ,followed her at exactly 7.58p.m at the age of 74 years.
While the wife was buried the same day, June 13, the husband was buried the second day, Wednesday June 14 because his death occurred too late in the day. And because of their involvement in Islamic activities, as well as their popularity, a consortium of clerics cnducted the Janazah prayer on them in turns.
The clerics were, Founder and Chief Imam/Missioner worldwide of Zawiyatul-Sofwatur-Rahmatil-Islamiyyat (ZASRAM), Ota, Ogun State, Sheikh Abdur-Razaq Abdul-Hameed Onaolapo Kasolayo, Imam Abdul-Waheed Kewuleye (Akobi Alalaye) and Imam Abdul-Jeleel Shittu Abu both from Abule Egba, Lagos.
Speaking with our correspondent in Sango Ota, Ogun State, one of the deceased children, Madam Marufat Adebayo disclosed that their parents hailed from Kuta, Ayedire Local Government of Osun State. the settlement is near the acient town of Iwo. According to her, it was from there they migrated to Lagos and settled at 18, Ile-Ogbo steet , Abule Egba before their demise this year on June 13 precisely.
Speaking further, Marufat who said she was very close to the parents like her other siblings to know that, “Though our parents were so close and were in love till the end, there was nothing like oath taking between them over the coincidence of their death,” adding that, “their belief in God and his Prophet, Muhammad (SAW) could not permit them to engage in such a fetish rubbish.
According to her, doctrine of their parents’ Islamic sect-Shamsud-Deen frowns at any form of fetishes hence their motto: Ko s’ebo, ko s’ogun, ko s’agbere (No Idolatry, No charm and No adultery.)
Corroborating her submission, Sheikh Sheikh Abdur-Razaq Abdul-Hameed Onaolapo Kasolayo of ZASRAM in one of his Friday Khutbah (Sermon) dwelled too much on the coincidence saying, “It has happened before just as it happened to us here resently and it will still continue to happen.”
According to the Ifon, Oshun State-born scholar, there is nothing spectacular for husband and wife to die on the same day, reminding that when the appointed time for anybody to go back to his Creator, nothing could delay or fast track it.
Against this backdrop, Kasolayo emphasised that, “What should be everybody’d concern is his/her faith, good deeds saying, “How, when and where anybody breathes his/her last is immaterial.”
In a brief telephone conversation with the first child of the couple, Mallam Murtala Adebayo, he confirmed the deep love between their parents till the end saying, they served as role model and true mentors to all the children and dependants they eventually left behind.
The couple was survived by eight children, three males and five females with a lot of grandchildren because God blessed the family with a lot of twins.
Neighbours described the departed couple as exemplary people who are peace-loving, religious and God-fearing.
