Contrary to earlier allegation by 25-year-old Oguegbu Promise, that Mrs. Akorede Balogun, had killed her husband, Alhaji Rasaki Balogun and his mistress, Muyibat Alabi, fresh facts have emerged, implicating Oguegbu and his lover, simply identified as Ifeyinwa, in the murder.
The 50-year-old Balogun, an accountant, and his mistress were found in a pool of their blood in a duplex owned by the late Balogun, located at 16 Taiwo Oke Street, Victory Estate, Ejigbo in Lagos.
Akorede who lives at Area 2, Igbehindun Estate, New Heaven, Iba, Lagos, had alerted the Ejigbo Police Division to the crime, after she had gone to visit her husband on June 20, and found him and another woman lying lifeless in the sitting room.
Briefed on the suspected murder, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu, had immediately ordered the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to unravel the mystery.

A police source at the SCIID has said weeks of rigorous investigation had paid off, as Oguegbu and Ifeyinwa (now at large) were found to have murdered the deceased persons in an attempt to rob Balogun, sell off the loot and use the proceeds to travel abroad.
According to the source, whose name cannot be mentioned for obvious reasons, police investigation revealed that Oguegbu was deported from Dubai three months before the crime.
While Ifeyinwa had rented the Boy’s Quarters apartment in Balogun’s compound about a year ago, Oguegbu had joined his lover on his return from Dubai.
“Ifeyinwa is a nurse and from what we have gathered, she was far older than Promise (Oguegbu). They were not married but cohabiting. They planned and executed the murder of Balogun and his mistress. They also robbed the deceased of valuables and made away with his car. We were able to track the car and also arrested Promise.
“However, Ifeyinwa is still at large. She had quit her job with a hospital in Lagos and relocated to the eastern part of the country. We are still trying to track her and hopefully soon, she will be arrested. We also gathered that the suspects wanted to sell off their loot to raise money to travel abroad together,” he said.

The source also confirmed that Oguegbu was still in police custody as he was yet to be charged to court for the crime.
“Promise is still in our custody, we hope to charge him to court soon, but for now, he is still helping us with investigation. We have even discovered that he was linked to other crimes,” he stated.
Oguegbu had in his explanation of how the deceased persons were murdered, said, “On June 18, Akorede came around, she called me to come and assist her with something in the main building.
“When I got there, I saw a fierce looking man in the sitting room, the man ordered me to tie the landlord’s mistress up, I did out of fear. My landlord and his girlfriend were shouting for help, but there was nothing I could do.
“I did not kill my landlord, it was Akorede, my landlord’s wife, that poured a poisonous substance in the mouth of the deceased persons. She also gave me her husband’s car key as bribe not to expose her,” the suspect had said.
