How 12 minors were initiated into Awawa cult in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command said 12 minors are currently being investigated by the Command following their alleged initiation into the notorious Awawa cult group. 

The minors, whose age ranges from eight to 16 years, were all students of a public school in Egan area of Igando.

Briefing journalists on the involvement of the minors,  Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal, said a Guardian and Counsellor tutor in the school saw the mark of initiation on the jaw of one of the minor.

Edgal said further interrogation of the minor by the Counsellor revealed that the 16- year-old had initiated them as they all had the marks of initiation.

“The children were discovered to have been initiated into a nefarious association by a Guardian and Counsellor attached to a public school in Egan, Igando, Lagos who saw a mark on the jaw of a student.

She immediately questioned the student, who mentioned other kids with similar marks.

“The oldest among the children revealed that she took the rest of the children for initiation and that the symbol on their jaws is that of the notorious Awawa boys.

“Two adult suspects behind the initiation are already in Police custody and are helping police investigation.

Investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting other members of the Awawa group for prosecution.”

The Commissioner of Police said he had directed the Gender Section of the Command to carefully investigate the matter.
