The staff of Heritage Bank has staged a protest at the residence of Senator Andy Uba over unpaid loans by the Senator.
Video footage by @KingArthurOG posted on social media shows staff of the bank dressed mostly in green Polo, carrying placards, and standing at the gate of the Senator’s residence.
A staff of the bank who posted the video said the reason they are at Uba’s residence is to amicably settle the unpaid loans so that people who work at the bank don’t lose their jobs.
“Today is Monday, June 21, 2021, and we have here staff of Heritage Bank Plc Abuja. We are in front of Senator Andy Uba’s house in Abuja. Senator Andy Uba has owed the bank for a couple of years now. And we’re here for a peaceful meeting with him to ask him to kindly repay those loans because those are depositors’ funds.
“And those monies, if they are not repaid, will throw the number of people you see here with their families out of work. We know the situation of the economy now. If these people are thrown out of work, you know what it means. So, we are here to appeal to him to kindly pay this money so that these people will not lose their jobs and, of course, the bank becomes a going concern,” he said.
Uba is contesting for the governorship election in Anambra State.
According to the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), only 350 debtors in Nigeria owe it N3. 6 trillion.
In 2017, a former private investigator accused Uba of certificate forgery, £1.8 million debt, per Premium Times report.
