Gunrunner in Kaduna police net, arms, ammunition recovered

The police in Kaduna State have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered arms and 344 rounds of ammunition from him.

The police spokesman in the state,  DSC Mohammed Jalige, in a statement in Kaduna disclosed that the arrest was made at Kwarkwaron Manu, Basawa area of Zaria, in Tudun Wada Zaria.

He explained that during surveillance, police operatives on patrol intercepted two men on an unregistered motorcycle with bags concealed in a suspicious manner on the motorcycle.

Jalige added that one of the suspects ran away when police officers stopped them for a routine check.

However, when the motorcyclist was searched, AK47 rifles, 344 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 10 mobile phones, and charms were discovered on him.

The suspect was arrested and he confessed that he was on a mission to supply his gang with the deadly weapons alongside his fleeing partner.

The command assured the public of its relentless effort to rid the state of criminals, adding that the state’s Commissioner of Police has directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated and the fleeing suspect arrested.
