Gunmen kill Police officer, injure expatriate in Edo attack

Some gunmen have attacked quarry workers in the Ihivbe-Ogben area of Edo, killing a Police Inspector and injuring others.

Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed the killing to newsmen on Sunday.

The deceased officer was attached to the quarry situated in Owan East Local Government of the state.

It was learnt that the gunmen ambushed the quarry workers while going to their base camp on Thursday evening and opened fire on them.

According to Yamu, one officer was killed while an expatriate and another police officer attached to the expatriate were injured.

“The injured expatriate and the police officer are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital,” sources said.

Yamu, however, said that the investigation into the incident was ongoing.

“The police in collaboration with the military are on the trail of the suspects,” the police spokesperson said. (NAN)
