Guber poll: Steer clear of Edo State, Ikimi warns Tinubu

A former Foreign Affairs Minister and Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tom Ikimi, has warned National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to steer clear from meddling in the politics in Edo State.

Reacting to Tinubu’s statement earlier, on Tuesday, where he asked voters in the Edo State to reject Governor Godwin Obaseki at the polls, Ikimi said the statement was “unfortunate coming from a man who described himself as a statesman and a democrat.”

He recalled the treatment Tinubu meted out to immediate past former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, denying him a second term in office, despite his sterling performance in his first term.

“Look at the way he treated Ambode. Ambode did well. Everybody begged Tinubu, he said no. Buhari begged him; he said ‘No’.

“But Tinubu pushed him away. Tinubu should steer clear of Edo State. He should steer clear of Edo state,” Ikimi warned.

He also questioned Tinubu’s credentials as a democrat, saying that the former Lagos governor cannot be seen to be statching monies in bullion van and be claiming to be a democrat.

According to Ikimi, “Asiwaju Bola Tinubu made some funny statements. It is unfortunate that that man is allowed to make such statements and people don’t challenge him. But one thing that is good is that the masquerade has been unmasked today.

“We are not fighting with Pastor Ize-Iyamu but the fight is against Bola Tinubu and Oshiomhole. Bola Tinubu, tell me how much you had in 1998 and 1999.

“And today they say you are a billionaire. You carry money in trucks all over the place to disfigure our country. Is that democracy? You carry money in Bullion Van and you claim that is democracy,” Ikimi said.
