A pan-Yoruba Cultural Organisation, Egbe Omoluabi Eko, has described the Lagos State House of Assembly’s invitation to former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as ‘normal, democratic and constitutional’.

The organisation made the assertion in a statement from its Coordinator, Omolola Olukayode which stated that the invitation falls within the House’s constitutional jurisdiction through which any individual or group can be summoned to answer questions on issues that are of public interest.

Olukayode, who however cautioned that the invitation should not turn to be a witch hunt, admitted that, there was nothing unusual about the summon, reminding that, some organizations have been clamouring for the probe of the immediate past administration which was suspected to have set a booby traps for the current administration in the state.

He therefore urged Ambode to honour the invitation to clear his administration’s name, saying, the step taken by the House appears to have the blessing of the generality of the people.

The group further suggested that, besides the Lagos State House of Assembly efforts at getting to the roots of how the finances of the state were handled under the period under review, other relevant anti-corruption agencies in the country like the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), should also wade in to ensure that the state money suspected to be in the purse of individuals or groups be retrieved and paid back to the state cover.
