Nsu-community Elite Congress (NEC) has rounded off a two-day medical outreach in Nsu community, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

However, there are plans to continue with follow up of those requiring it at the nearest primary health care centres in the community.
The outreach was organised by the NEC, the Nsu community think tank, which has a mission to pursue ennobling endeavours for the advancement of the bustling community.
Dr. Anele Ebizie, the chairman of the health committee of the august body, which supervised the activity, expressed appreciation for “the joint efforts of the Health Commitee and the medical staff some of whom were from outside our community. We also had non NEC ancillary staff, who were invaluable with preparations , organising and data collection.”
He particularly thanked Dr. Chris Elemuwa, “who helped to get together the majority of health care workers, who took part in the outreach; Ambassador Eustace Opara, who coordinated the events along with the indefatigable members of the NEC Health Committee, who were on the ground and saw to the smooth running of the event.
“We are also grateful to the Non NEC members, who helped in coordinating and supervising alongside several health care personnel, who all put in their very best.
“This is but the beginning and we will continue towards our goal of ensuring good health care delivery in our community.
“Finally I wish to appreciate our very able President Mr. Basil Ojukwu, who was involved in the execution of this project not just from a distance but with his physical presence on site before and during the event. He ensured security of the premises and that we did not lack any immediate requirement.
“Our thanks also go to the Acclaim Health Foundation that helped in funding an aspect of the event.”
According to Ebizie: “One of the goals of this outreach is to raise awareness for our primary health care centres, which we want to make the patients’ first port of call.
“If we can help support these with regular medications and remote doctor consultations, we may begin to impact on the health care delivery in our community,” he added.
Furthermore, he explained: “Part of this exercise is data collection.
“All attendees are being registered, then screened for amongst other things, diabetes and hypertension and these are recorded. Along with their nearest primary health care centres.
“Their further treatment, follow up and provision of medicines for those found to have long term conditions will be be through their primary health care centres.
“Telemedicine, which we are initiating at this outreach and will continue after will help in this data collection as we follow up this and other cohorts of patients.
“It is the hope of the Health Committee that the NEC will continue to support these long term plans as is already being done for this medical outreach outing.”
