A human rights organisation, the Black Youth Vanguard (BYV), has commended a faith-based human rights group, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) and entire students of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos State, for supporting the Walk for Peace proposed by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu saying the development was heart-warming and a welcome idea.

Convener of the BYV, Comrade James Adeyemi, in a statement issued, on Monday, thanked the two bodies for seeing sense in what Sanwo-Olu is trying to achieve reminding that, without peace, harmony and peaceful coexistence, no society develops or progresses.

Adeyemi in the statement was making reference to a statement from the MURIC Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, in which he has expressed his group’s preparedness to back the governor’s call for a peace walk, appealing to other religious leaders and the teeming youth of the state to partake in the peace initiative with a view to moving Lagos State forward.

Referring to the MURIC statement about the governor’s recent extended invitation Lagosians to a peace walk, in which its Director Akintola wanted accepted by all lovers of peace and all believers in one God, Adeyemi agreed with that, adding that, the best form of tackling problem is to find solutions to the problem and not to aggravate it.

“We toe the line of MURIC and agree with the Islamic group that, Sanwo-Olu has stooped to conquer, and thus should be supported in the historic march. So, all our members will also walk for peace with Sanwo-Olu because Lagos must not burn again,” Adeyemi declared.

The Vanguard, in the same vein extended its commendation to the entire body of the students of the state owned University, LASU, for their resolve to join the governor in the Peace Walk, saying, “their resolve is commendable way of reciprocating the good gesture of the governor towards their wellbeing and welfare in and outside the campus.

Recall Lagos State University (LASU) students were beneficiaries of Sanwo-Olu’s benevolence recently when he commissioned a Student Arcade and announced the donation of two new buses to the Student Union.

Adeyemi believed that, volunteering to be part of the Peace Walk by the students is borne out of their resolve to show appreciation to their benefactor, the Governor, in the manner of the proverbial ‘rub my back I rub your back,’ admitting that, their participation in a large number would serve as a soothing balm that would heal the wounds and bruises suffered aftermath of the ill-fated 2020 #EndSARS protest in the state.

The Vanguard therefore appealed to all the antagonists of the Peace Walk to have a rethink and join Governor Sanwo-Olu in the peace initiative, saying, it would, at the end of the day be in the benefit of all residents of the state and facilitate conducive environment for economic growth, social harmony and political stability.
