Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has directed top government officials supervising the state’s Rehabilitation Board, to come up with a template on how government will support persons with disabilities in the state.
Governor Sule gave the directive while playing host to a delegation from the Nasarawa State Rehabilitation Board, at the Government House, on Thursday.
The governor who asserted that Nasarawa State would continue to set the pace when it comes to care and concern for people with special needs, specifically directed the commissioners, Special Adviser and Senior Special Assistant supervising the board, to come up with a plan for supporting persons with disabilities in the state.

While commending the Executive Secretary of the board, Sarah Dogo and her management for the good job they continue to do, Governor Sule said persons with special needs in the state have continued to do proud to former governor, Sen. Umaru Tanko Al-makura, who has been in the forefront in promoting their issues not only in Nasarawa but the country at large.
He promised that his administration will continue to support persons with special needs, for them to be independent and be in a position to cater for themselves and add value to the society.
“The various requests that you have made are very genuine and fair.
“For those who have spent a lot of time trying to learn all these various skills, they definitely need all kinds of support, for them to be able to cater for themselves. And I promise you I will keep up with your request and I will do the best I can to ensure that,” the governor said.
Governor Sule further appreciated all those with special needs who have demonstrated that they can do better than some so-called able persons.
The governor promised to expedite action on the planned constitution and inauguration of the members of the state’s Disability Rights Commission earlier passed by the state House of assembly.
Earlier, in her introductory remarks, Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Rehabilitation Board, Sarah J. Dogo, presented some persons with special needs who were sponsored by the state government and have obtained various qualifications ranging from HND, NCE, first degree and even masters, for employment.
Dogo said most of these graduates have proficiency in different skills areas and would require support in terms of grants so they can practice their skills in order to sustain themselves, contribute to the society and generate revenue to government.
She equally called for the constitution and take off of the Disability Rights Commission promulgated by former governor, Senator Tanko Al-makura.
During the visit, some persons with special needs presented the Governor with some of the products of their vocational skills.
