Gov. Makinde pledges huge investment in youths

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State says his government will make huge investments in youths to reduce the rate of crime and unemployment in the state.

Makinde, represented by his deputy, Rauf Olaniyan, made the promise in Iseyin on Thursday at the Swearing-in Ceremony of the 2019 Batch B Corps Members deployed to Oyo state.

According to him, government will do everything within its capacity to ensure a conducive and a secured environment for the corps members during and after the orientation.

“We are not unaware of security challenges being experienced in our country, to this effect, we shall put in place adequate security measures to check any breakdown of law and order,” he said.

He assured the corps members that their welfare would remain government’s utmost priority.

Makinde urged the corps members to integrate with members of their host communities by learning, appreciating and respecting the cultures of the people, knowing that the Yorubas respect their culture.

Similarly, Mrs Oyebisi Adegoke, acting Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sports, who doubles as the Chairman, Oyo State NYSC Governing Board, urged the corps members to be law abiding.

Adegoke assured them of warm reception and hospitality of the good people of Oyo state, during and after service year.

“As vibrant youths with intellectual abilities, I enjoin you all to tap from the natural instinct of the people of Oyo state,” she said.

Earlier, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Eniola Ambekemo, said as at 12 midnight of Wednesday, a total of 2,390 prospective corps members, comprising of 1,130 males and 1,260 females, were registered.

Ambekemo emphasised that the orientation course was aimed at instilling in the prospective corps members, leadership qualities, integrity and discipline.

She advised members to interact amicably with one another, irrespective of their cultural differences.

The coordinator also urged them to embrace one another’s culture, especially the culture of their host communities, to ensure national unity and integration, which is the core value of the NYSC.

“I implore you to embrace the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, which is one of the course contents of the orientation.

“For you to become self-reliant, employers of labour, you must participate actively in the Skills Acquisition programme,” she said. (NAN)
