Governor Siminalayi Fubara has charged Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed in Rivers State to be focused and determined in playing pivotal roles that will uplift the lives of the citizens of the state.
The governor gave the charge on Wednesday, at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai Local Government Area, when he declared closed, the 2024 Batch A Stream 1 orientation course for corps members.
Governor Fubara, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo urged the corps members to see themselves as elite youths who must be disciplined and patriotic in making positive impacts in their host communities.

“Be a beacon of light in your host communities and have it at the back of your mind always that that you owe the people of your host communities the responsibility to serve well, especially by being role models.”
The governor reassured the corps members that his administration will continue to place their security and welfare as a top priority.
Addressing the corps members, Governor Fubara said: “Integrate well with the people of your host communities, respect their culture and traditions, learn their language too in order to have a satisfying service year and in doing so, fulfilling a key objective of the NYSC scheme centered on unity and integration”.

In an address, the State Coordinator NYSC Rivers, Mr George Mfongang told the governor that the corps members have been adequately equipped with character, capacity and competence to excel and contribute meaningfully well in their Places of Primary Assignment across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
He expressed confidence that the corps members will promote and entrench peace, equity, social justice, love and mutual respect amongst citizens of the State as nation builders.
Mfongang however, thanked governor Fubara for paying State Allowance to all Corps Members in the State and appealed to them to reciprocate the gesture by being exceptional and exemplary in their service to the people.
A total of 1676 Corps Members made up of 858 males and 812 females successfully completed the orientation exercise in the State.
