Traditional rulers in Rivers State under the aegis Rivers State Traditional Rulers’ Council (RSTRC) has thrown its weight behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara in its ongoing battle with his predecessor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike for the political control of the state.
The council gave the support at an extraordinary meeting held to pass a vote of confidence on the governor’s leadership.
According to the chairman of the council, His Majesty Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, the Eze Oha Apara IV of Apara Kingdom, while speaking during a courtesy visit to Governor Fubara, the council appreciates the governor’s performances in ensuring peace reign in the state despite the political tension rocking the state.
He noted that the governor has invested in security by providing necessary equipment for the police, adding that the manner the governor handled the political unrest which characterised the October 5, 2024 local government elections was commendable
“We pass a vote of confidence on His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, for his leadership and commitment to the peace and prosperity of Rivers State. We will continue to support the governor in all his policies and programs throughout his tenure,” the council told the governor.
They called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the political crisis rocking the state by ensuring that none of his political appointees is allowed to continue the escalating political crisis in the state.
In his response, Governor Fubara thanked the monarchs for their support and assured them of his administration’s commitment to respecting the traditional institution in Rivers and pledged to avoid any actions that could undermine their authority.
“Your visit today reassures me that we have the backing of Rivers people. You, the traditional rulers, represent the heart of our communities, and we are committed to upholding and respecting your esteemed positions,” the governor said.
