The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it will certify all vehicles that would convey election materials and personnel.
Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, the FRSC Corps Marshal, made this known at a capacity building programme on election duties organised for FRSC staff on Wednesday in Lagos State.
Oyeyemi, represented by Mr Ademola Lawal, the Deputy Corps Marshal in Charge of Training, said that the corps would apply due diligence and integrity to certify all the vehicles designated for election duties.
“FRSC participation in the 2019 general elections will involve certifying all the vehicles to be used for conveying election materials and personnel.

“Therefore, we must apply due diligence and integrity we are known for.
“As you are aware, FRSC has over the years been very active in election duties and in the process, it has earned national confidence through its commitment to diligently carrying out its assignments.
“Aside the immediate areas of traffic management and safety administration, the corps has in conjunction with other security agencies to maintain orderliness during the national programme that attract large numbers of people and vehicles,” he said.
The Corps Marshal said that FRSC, as the lead agency in road traffic administration and safety management in the country, was also a member of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).
According to him, the corps is a member of the Inter-ministerial Committee on Logistics and for the 2019 general elections.
Boboye said that the corps has the responsibilities of ensuring safe and free movement of election vehicles and materials as well as personnel for smooth electoral process.

The FRSC chief said that members of the corps have in the past months been involved in various activities for the tasks ahead.
“Our staff have participated in trainings, meetings and capacity development programmes for the success of the elections,” he added.
In his remarks, Mr Hyginus Omeje, the FRSC Lagos State Sector Commander, said that part of the responsibilities of the personnel was to make highways and roads safe for the movement of vehicles during elections.
Omeje said that the all inter-states movement would be prohibited and ensure compliance and enforcement of all terms and conditions on the exercise.
“The corps carries out inspection and certification of vehicles to be provided for electoral operations by ensuring that the vehicles meet the minimum safety standards.
According to him, FRSC has deployed about 1,750 personnel to participate in election duties across Lagos State.
“The corps is a member of the Logistics Task Force for compliance and enforcement of all terms and conditions in the MoU between INEC and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) on the general election,” he said. (NAN)
