Four feared dead in Ebonyi auto crash

About four persons have lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident along the Abakaliki-Afikpo Expressway in Ebonyi State.

 

 

It was said the accident was on account of reckless driving.

 

 

 

The incident which happened, on Sunday afternoon, involved three vehicles; trailer, peace mass transit and 608 lorry of JE water factory located in Afikpo area of the state.

 

 

An eyewitness explained that the trailer heading towards Abakaliki rammed into a Peace Mass Transit heading towards Port Harcourt killing the driver on the spot and killing three passengers, while three others sustained serious injuries.

 

 

 

Sympathisers crowded the scene to rescue the victims blamed Federal Government for poor maintenance of the road and also recklessness of some drivers.

In their reactions, some passersby said that the rate of accidents on the road would have been curtailed had the Ebonyi State Government completed the Federal Highway which was started by the last administration from Abakaliki to terminate at Afikpo.

 

 

 

 

One of the road users, who cried at the accident scene of the accident, but who did not want his name in prints, appealed to incumbent Governor Francis Nwifuru, to look into the problem that stopped the double lane construction from Abakaliki City to Afikpo.

 

 

 

 

It was gathered that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), when called upon, evacuated the corpses of the victims to the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, in Abakaliki.
