The Enugu State Police Command has maintained that the sale and unapproved use of firecrackers throughout the state ahead of Christmas remain banned.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police spokesperson in a statement via X, said the Enugu Commissioner of Police CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, reiterated the ban, warning fireworks dealers and users to “desist forthwith,” stressing that “the dangers of setting off explosives like knockout bangers and firecrackers include enabling criminals, causing injuries, and fire outbreaks.”
The police boss emphasised that fireworks had a tendency to enable crime, heighten tension, and pose “hazards to human life and property” during the dry and harmattan season.

Uzuegbu warned punitive measures against and urged parents to stop children from buying or igniting fireworks.
Also, the CP ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, and Tactical Unit heads to ensure complete enforcement of the ban in order to guarantee guarantee watertight security this Christmas season.
He warned: “We will not tolerate any security breaches in their jurisdictions” and wished Enugu citizens “a merry Christmas and fruitful new year”.
