A popular Bauchi city market, the Muda Lawan market was, on Thursday, gutted by fire.
One person was reported to have been burnt beyond recognition in the fire.
An eyewitness said the fire started after a truckload of mattresses caught fire.

It was gathered that efforts were put in place to contain the spread of the fire as several shops and cars parked close to the market were also burnt.
It was further gathered that some angry youths in the area attacked the firefighters who mustered to the scene for getting to the scene late.
The firefighters, however, went back to reinforce with a stronger team before they were able to put out the fire.
