Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has dismissed insinuations that both the Federal and state governments, are not doing enough to tackle the security challenges confronting the country.
Governor Sule made this known shortly after inspecting progress of work at the Mobile Police Training College, in Andehu, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, on Saturday.
The governor said there is every need to correct the false impression suggesting that both the Federal and state governments, are merely talking because of the number of crimes taking place on a daily basis.
Speaking on the efforts of his administration to curb crime and criminalities across the state, Engineer Sule revealed that the police have arrested the killers of a traditional ruler, the Sarkin Odu, who was murdered by kidnappers last week, as well as the killers of a relation of a former minister, in Gudi, country of the Governor.
“We have lots of kidnappings that have taken place in Nasarawa State. I’m happy to inform you that both those that killed the man in Gudi and those that killed the traditional ruler, have all been arrested,” he said.
According to the Governor, if nothing is being done to tackle the security challenges, there is no way the police will arrest these criminals.
Governor Sule emphasised that his administration was leaving no stone unturned towards ensuring that the state is secured.
The Governor added that coming from a background of industrialization, his administration succeeded in attracting a private firm, the Azman Rice and Farms, which acquired 14, 000 hectares of land in Toto Local Government Area, purely for agricultural development.
“Just as they are getting ready to start that, one notorious bandit from outside the state came and settled in the area.
“The forces- police, military, Air Force, had a combined operation, following which they destroyed the entire camp set up by the bandits and dispersed them,” Engineer Sule recounted.
The Governor disclosed further that the state government was expending stupendous resources towards the provision of infrastructure as well support to security agencies operating in the state.
Commending on the ongoing work at the mobile police training college, Engineer Sule expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the site.
He particularly appreciated the Nigerian Police, as well as the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, a son of the state, for siting the project in the state, which will add to the security architecture of the state.
The Governor noted that the project, aside of adding to the security of the area, previously known as a notorious hideout for kidnappers and armed robbers, also has economic advantage in the form of employment opportunities for the citizens of the state.
