Federal government, NBBF to construct 109 basketball courts across Nigeria

The Sports Ministry and the nation’s basketball governing body, NBBF are planning what could pass for a basketball revolution that would see the country having 109 new basketball courts.
Hint to this effect was dropped when the NBBF president Musa Kida paid a courtesy call on sports minister Sunday Dare early this week after returning from Kigali, Rwanda where Nigeria’s D’Tigers had a fine outing in the 2021 Afrobasket qualifiers.
Dare during the visit said Nigeria would emulate America where basketball is part of the people’s culture.
He said to achieve this, the sports ministry and NBBF would build 109 new basketball courts that would be located in every senatorial zone of the country.
In Dare’s words: “We hope to start a project to have at least one basketball court in at least one senatorial district in the country through private and public participation. That is a commitment that is being chaired by the NBBF and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. By January 2021, we should have a template of how this will run, how the funding will be received, how it will be implemented and how those our young ones in primary and secondary schools, villages and some of these senatorial districts can just stroll into a basketball court and make basketball a culture. That is what happens in America.”
