The Lagos state police command has arrested the father of Chidinma Ojukwu, the 21-year-old student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), who allegedly murdered Usifo Ataga, the CEO of Super TV, according to The Punch newspaper
The newspaper quoted an official of the command as saying Chidinma was arrested alongside her father at their Yaba residence on Wednesday.
According to the source, the arrest of the suspect’s father followed his initial attempt to allegedly resist Chidinma’s arrest by becoming violent with the police officers.
The source revealed that he was being detained at the state criminal investigation and intelligence department in Panti, Yaba.
The source added that the student’s father was shocked by her daughter’s confession to the crime on Thursday, noting that prior to that, he never believed in the allegations against her.
“She (Chidinma) stays with her dad. Her dad and mom don’t live together. Her father was arrested on Wednesday because he resisted his daughter’s arrest. He never believed that his daughter committed any crime until Thursday. He is at Panti as we speak, but he was not paraded today (Thursday),” the source was quoted as saying.
But when contacted by TheCable Lifestyle on Friday, Muyiwa Adejobi, the command’s spokesman, said he was not aware of his arrest.
Adejobi added that the student’s father was never a suspect in the investigation.
“I’m not aware of that (referring to the arrest of Chidinma’s father). He was never a suspect,” he said.
Chidinma had earlier confessed to stabbing Ataga, claiming that he forcefully had sex with her.
Meanwhile, since news of the incident broke, UNILAG has yet to react to the development.
