‘Fake Police’ officer, lawyer arrested in Lagos

Police in Lagos State has picked up two impostors who are now cooling their feet in their custody. The impostors are a fake Police Commissioner and a fake lawyer.
The long arm of the law caught up with them two along 11 other suspected criminals paraded Monday by the Lagos State Police
Command Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin on behalf of the Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa at the Command headquarters, Ikeja.
The police spokesperson said the duo have been going about in the nomenclature of the rank and profession to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

During the parading exercise, the police image maker disclosed that the fake Commissioner of Police Identified as Nwagu Emmanuel was apprehended at a police formation where he introduced himself with the rank but could not justify it on further enquires.
The Lagos Police imagemaker stated further that the impostor was offered full compliment by officers and men on duty, but later discovered to be a fake officer.
His words, “On September 2, 2023 at about 4.40pm, one Nwagu Emmanuel ‘m’ visited a police premises and introduced himself as a Commissioner of Police.”
In the case of the fake lawyer, Hundeyin hinted that he was arrested following complaint by members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Epe branch, Lagos State.

Identified as Ibrahim Bello, the fake lawyer was alleged to have been presenting himself as a lawyer at the Epe High/Magistrate Court for several years.
“On September 4, 2023, after receipt of a complaint from the Nigeria Bar Association, Epe Branch, against one Ibrahim Bello ‘m’ who has been conducting and presenting himself as a Lawyer at the Epe High/Magistrate Court for several years, operatives of the Command arrested the suspect fully dressed as a lawyer in court. He was brought in for questioning where he was discovered to be an impersonator”.
During a search conducted in his office, two photo frames in which he dressed in lawyer’s robe, several books on law practice, which include Tenancy Law 2015, Law of Lagos State 2015, Administration of Criminal Justice Repeal and Reenactment Law, Law of Trespass To Land and Nuisance, third edition, Due Process of Law edited by Akintunde O. Obilade & Gloria J. Braxton and Lagos State Government Oba and Chiefs of Lagos State Government were recovered.
