Ex-minister denounces amnesty for bandits

Northern state governments negotiating with bandits have got thumbs down for the decision.

In a statement, former minister of state foreign affairs and information, Dr. Nuruddeen Muhammad, condemned negotiations with, and amnesty for insurgents and bandits, which the governments embarked upon as a possible solution to insecurity challenge in the North.

”We must never again ever negotiate with any outlaw from the position of weakness”, he stressed.

Dr Muhammad said rather than negotiate with criminal gangs, the law enforcement agents should make the country’s territory unconducive for them.

“It is about time we declared that the territory referred to as the Federal Republic of Nigeria isn’t a hunting ground for violent ideological extremists, murderous criminal gangs and other opportunistic conflict entrepreneurs.

”Enemies of our people and the state (who kill, maim and destroy) must always return to their hideouts with the fearful certainty that our law enforcement agents will get them anytime anywhere”, the ex-minister remarked

He stressed that ”This is nationhood 101!”
