In a moving message posted on his verified Facebook account, Dickson, who was recently nominated as the unopposed candidate of the PDP for the senatorial by-election for Bayelsa West, recalled that Odungba was selfless and a lover of his people.
The former governor’s message reads, “I commiserate with the wife, children and family of Chief GCM Odungba whose death has saddened us all.
“Chief Odungba’s passing is a sad loss of a good man and a statesman to Bayelsa State and the Ijaw nation.
“Chief Odungba, the Odokale of Epie was a great man who touched many lives in his days as a teacher, player in the Petroleum industry and politician.
“Chief Odungba who was Chairman of the Restoration and PDP Caucus in Yenagoa Local Government used the opportunities and influence of the platform to galvanise support for my administration while I was Governor of Bayelsa.

“I worked closely with the late chief when we both aspired to govern the state under the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Progressives Party between 2000 and 2003 and he was like a father even as we related closely.
“I urge the widow, children and grandchildren of the late Chief to be consoled by the full and exemplary life he lived.
“As the holder of prestigious title of Ogbogbo Olotu 1 of Oguan in Attisa and Epie kingdoms, I also condole with the monarchs of Epie and the Attissa kingdoms and all the members of the Councils of Chiefs on the passing of the elder statesman.
“I will work closely with the family and the council of chiefs to ensure that Chief Odungba gets a befitting burial.
“I pray for the repose of his soul and I also pray to the Almighty God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
