Ex-Gov. Dickson commissions Bayelsa ultramodern transport terminal

Immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson, has commissioned a multimillion Naira Bayelsa Transport Terminal Building at Igbogene, in the outskirts of Yenagoa, the state capital.
The former governor lauded his successor for completing most of the projects his administration started but could not complete.
The Bayelsa Transport Terminal was one of the legacy projects started by the immediate past administration of Sen. Dickson but was completed by the current Sen. Douye Diri-led Prosperity Administration.

The commissioning of the project was part of the activities to mark the third anniversary of the Governor Diri-led administration in the state.
In his remarks shortly before commissioning the project, Sen. Dickson, who lauded Governor Diri’s policy of continuity of projects, attributed the smooth transition from one administration to the other in the state as one of the factors that has spurred the continuity and completion of projects.
The federal lawmakers noted that if another political party had won the last elections most of the projects being completed by the current administration in the state would not have seen the light of day.
Said he, “Bayelsa for the first time has witnessed continuity in a special way.
“Continuity and transfer of baton of leadership from one person in the government to another also in the team of the government and the benefits are numerous.
“The commissioning of the Bayelsa Health Insurance building is another dividends of continuity. And here we are; we can see continuity in several ways.
“Continuity in government is not a bad thing in terms of projects and policies.
“I heard that the government will be unveiling many more projects that we started which he has continued and dutifully completed,” said Sen. Dickson who further commended Governor Diri for the gesture.
According to him, Governor Diri is “demonstrating that he was not only a part of that government but he knew the path we were taking.
“Can you imagine what would have happened if some people had taken power from us? This place would have been a forest”, he added
In his remarks, Governor Diri harped on the importance of continuity in government and completing projects started by his predecessor. He asserted that if his administration had abandoned projects started by his predecessor, all the public funds put into the projects would have been wasted.
He noted that for the first time in the history of the state transition from one government to the other was peaceful and this has led the continuity of the legacy projects in the state .
In the words of Governor Diri, “Public funds have been put into these projects by my predecessor.

“If and when we came in we abandoned these projects, all of that money would have been wasted.”
The governor, however, warned those clamouring for change of government unnecessarily.
He said, “Those who have change as their motor be very careful of then.
“However if change is very necessary even God will approve of it “added Senator Diri
Further re-echoing what spurred him to complete the projects which were started by his predecessor, Governor Diri said, “The most interesting part is that, for the first time in our state, the batons of government was .passed to a successor and a successor running the relay race.
The governor used the occasion to announce the disbandment of all transport companies operating in various parts of the state capital, Yenagoa, saying the commissioning of the new multi-purpose terminal ended their operations in various parts of the capital city .
“To all our transporters who are coming from other states who have transport terminals littered across the state, today is marks the end of it.
“All transporters will terminate at this point. The state government has already procured vehicles that will take commuters from here to their various destination in the state”.
The state’s Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Surv. Moses Teibowei, who presented various facilities in the terminal, said it was built by the Bayelsa State Dredging Company headed by Engr. Amos Waretimi and supervised by the Bayelsa State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
According to him, the facility has both ground and upper floors.
