Ex-BBC editor, Adejuwon Soyinka arrested by DSS at Lagos airport

 

Adejuwon Soyinka, the regional editor for West Africa at The Conversation Africa and a former editor of BBC Pidgin Service, Adejuwon Soyinka, has been arrested by officers of the Department of State Security, DSS, at the Lagos airport.

 

He was whisked away by the security agents around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, immediately he arrived from the United Kingdom aboard a Virgin Atlantic flight.

 

According to a close friend of Soyinka who requested anonymity, the DSS gave no reason for his arrest.

 

“Adejuwon Soyinka was detained by officers of the Department of State Security at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The incident occurred around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, shortly after he arrived in Nigeria via a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom.

“No reason has been provided by the security agency for his detention. Soyinka remains unreachable, with all attempts to contact him proving unsuccessful,” he said.
