Ex-AD national chair, Akinfenwa dies at 89

A former senator and prominent Yoruba leader, Sen. Mojisola Akinfenwa, has died at the age of 89.

He was national chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

His demise was confirmed by a former AD chairman, in Osun State, Hon. Oladape Fakunle, who said the late Akinfenwa enjoyed good health till his final moment.

It was gathered that the deceased, an indigene of Osun State, died in his home in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, October 3. According to Fakunle, “To us, his complaint wasn’t seen as anything serious as he was not used to falling sick. Once he treats malaria, he gets back on his feet.

“But, sadly, while he was observing his bed rest at home, and we expected him to be back, he died in his home, on Thursday.”

Speaking further about the deceased, Fakunle said, “He was a founding member of Alliance for Democracy; he joined no other political party.

“Being a committed follower of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, he was a principled man and remained so till his death.

“His kind of leader is rare, we will surely miss him.”

He also described the late politician as ‘a great leader’, who lived an exemplary life as a father and politician.

SenThe deceased was survived by his children and other members of his family. His remains had been deposited at Wesley Hospital and burial plans would be announced later.
