Nigerians are not happy with singer Azeez Fashola popularly called Naira Marley over the cancellation of protests he planned for Tuesday against police harassment and brutality.
The singer had asked Nigerian youths to join him on the streets to protest the incessant harassment, exhortation and brutality by men of the Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian police.
Naira Marley said the reason for calling off the protest was because he was engaging with the police top echelon on social media, especially on Instagram.
Nigerians, who seem primed for the protest, took to social media to express their disgust and frustration over the cancellation.

Many social media influencers, including Dipo Awojide, asked the singer why he would announce a protest when he knew he would not see it through in the first place.
“Naira Marley was here saying young Nigerians like online chit chat and protest. He organised something. Then, in the morning, cancel it and says he’s having a chat with the Nigeria Police Force on Instagram. Ok.” Awojide tweeted.
Others said the reason the Nigerian government does not take them seriously is that they, the youths, don’t see their actions through.

“So, Nigeria Police Force pick naira marley for Instagram live chat to talk about sars, Why not Henry Shield, Segelinks Deji Adeyanju, Aisha Yusuf or any other person… we are not ready in this country”, @toluteezzy tweeted.
Others asked that the musician be spared since he has already started talking to the police at the highest level.
Earlier, the Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare had asked Naira Marley to shelve the proposed strike as ‘something’ is being done to address the issues of exortotstion and brutality by the police.
The singer asked Dare if there is any guarantee that something concrete would come of out of the new promises by the government this time.
