The Lagos State Government, on Tuesday, gave out tools to 1,000 graduates of its skill acquisition centres across the state as part of its poverty alleviation programmes for indigenes of the state.
The 2024 program under the Micro-Enterprise Support Initiative, MESI, which was held at the Skills Acquisition Centre, Isheri Olowo-Ira through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation was aimed at alleviating the economic plight of the Lagos citizenry.
According to the Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, Cecilia Bolaji Dada said the state government, recognises the plight of the less privileged in the society therefore has ensured that no one is left behind and that everyone has equal opportunities to succeed.
Some of the tools given out were milling machines, sewing machines, professional hair-dryers, barbing clippers with sterilizing units and generators, pop-corn machines, shawarma grillers and toasting machines, snail pens, industrial cookers, tile laying machines, as well as gari processing equipment.
Dada said the tools would help the graduates to start their own businesses, adding the beneficiaries were selected from the five divisions of Lagos State.
She noted that 11,885 participants had benefited from the programme from 2019 till date, adding the ministry has trained 500 women in digital marketing literacy while free Androids were given to them to enhance their businesses , as part of efforts to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on micro businesses across the state.
