Emirship tussle: We cannot be intimidated, says Kano govt
The Kano State Government has insisted that it cannot be cowed by anybody over the disbandment of the five emirates in the state and reinstatement of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi ll, as the Emir of Kano.
The state government had last week disbanded the five emirate councils created by the firmer governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, thereby restoring the single emirate status under one emir, Sanusi.
The development had generated mixed reactions but the state Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, told reporters in Kano that there was no going back on that decision.
“The state government decided through the proper legal process. Nobody will intimidate us from making a decision that serves the common good of the people,” Gwarzo said.
”The importance of peaceful coexistence for the state’s progress and political stability is paramount.”
He noted that the state government under Governor Abba Yusuf was committed to restoring the state to its founding principles of peace, justice, equality, tolerance, and hospitality.
