Godwin Emefiele, the embattled former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has won
a N100m damages award against the Federal Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for the violation of his rights.
Justice Olukayode Adeniyi of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Monday, awarded the damages while delivering judgment in the enforcement of fundamental rights suit brought before him by the former CBN boss.
Joined in the suit with the Federal Government, were the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and the Chairman of the EFCC.
Justice Adeniyi further held that he continued detention of Emefiele by the agency of the Federal Government and subsequent transfer and detention by the anti-graft body violated his fundamental human right.
Consequently, the judge restrained the respondents from further re-arresting the former governor of Nigeria’s apex bank or detaining him without a valid order of a court of competent jurisdiction.
